Alternatively, you will get a very vague answer that you already shout at you with one foot on the court or a head in the refrigerator. In a better case, you will get an enthusiastic response that they have been learning about the seasons and whether you know why bears sleep during the winter. Unfortunately, the traditional style of teaching based on memorizing and writing notes seldom motivates children to show active interest in school.

An enthusiastic look, curious questions, or an attempt to catch up with parents that they don’t know something is slowly disappearing from school life. However, the solution may be experiential pedagogy. Learning through games that not only improve learning memoirs, but also help with the personal development of children.

Remember the curriculum will help games and experience

What we experience is better remembered and used in our lives. Not only children have a problem with long-term memory. Even a week ago, university students do not remember what they were trying to do. The paradox is that if you ask colleagues at work what projects they have been working on over the past half year, they will not know how to start soon. Why are we able to remember this without any problems, but our children cannot remember the basic curriculum?

The main difference is that while we are actively involved in projects, we think about them and have our own attitude towards them, the kids just sit down. They are dependent on listening to the teacher, they are not involved in the learning process. That’s why many of them will stop paying attention and find a piece of workbook that can color. Not even writing notes will help older pupils, because if they are only dictated by the teacher, the child does not intend on what he writes. Therefore, we cannot be surprised that they will take home the minimum of their home and they do not know what the day was at school.

School play when learning is an experience

At present, much is being discussed about the school’s preparation for life. In order for team players to be independent, flexible, they could decide and express their opinion without difficulty. These are the skills that a school should strengthen in children as well as curriculum. For example, through simulated games that pull them into the story and motivate them properly.

The answer may be experiential pedagogy, which involves the whole person in the process of learning and uses experiences and experiences. These can be sporting, artistic, adventurous, intellectual or emotional. Compared to the traditional way of using textbooks, it has the advantage of directly involving pupils with the teacher and using non-standard teaching aids.

What is important is that in such a process, the child is faced with a problem to which he or she must take a position. He always gets into confrontation with other members of the group, sees how they think and also receives important feedback.

Experience pedagogy as a way to personal development

Learning through experience plays an important role in the development of communication, teamwork and self-knowledge. It also gives pupils the opportunity to identify themselves with positive views and integrate them into the group. It is very quick to find out in this form of teaching who is more dominant in the group and to continue teaching dynamics accordingly, or to encourage more shy children to be afraid to express their opinion. “The most important aspect of experiential education is to create a secure environment for opinions. Do not evaluate what is good and what is bad. Experience pedagogy does not have strict rules and must be improvised. The interest in the game must also be voluntary and pupils need to be properly motivated. For example, by devising their own team name, which at the same time promotes natural competition. In her work, Susan uses experiential pedagogy, storytelling and various activation methods to draw students into the learning process. Learning then becomes an active endeavor instead of passive acceptance, thus ensuring a greater degree of memorized content.

Workshops that help teachers

Imagine 24 adults sitting in a circle and thinking how much their team would catch wooden fish or what kind of gorals they had to collect to survive and meet their goal. Simple at first glance, but thanks to these games, teachers learn how to educate their pupils. How to draw them more into the daily process of teaching and give them as much as possible during the lesson. In this spirit, the last workshop of bank was held in cooperation with the Comenius Institute. The Bank Launches the Project This Year Every school matters and has prepared four one-day workshops for teachers on topical education topics.

The first workshops have already taken place. Their topic was coaching techniques in school, critical thinking and the mentioned educational pedagogy. The course of each workshop is interactive, so teachers appreciate their content very positively. “I had no idea that so many useful factors could be combined in games. Only the ignorance that the neighboring team had a different assignment than us brought a lot of smiling moments into the game and even more motivation to crack the problem. I look forward to applying something similar in our school, ”said one of the teachers after the workshop.

The last workshop on enrolled teachers is still waiting. It will concern the creation of educational projects and financial literacy of pupils. Choosing topics isn’t random. For example, financial literacy in schools is an underestimated topic, and can significantly affect the future of pupils.

In this way, bank also wants to inspire teachers to inspire how they can change education from below. So far it is a pilot project for schools in region. However, it will be extended to other regions in the coming years. “Many of the school reform activities and the introduction of innovations are taking place in big cities. If we want to improve education in European countries, it is necessary to involve all schools. We believe that every child and every school matters, ”explains worker, spokeswoman of bank, why they came up with this concept.

In addition, five teachers who attend the workshops can receive a € 2,000 grant and start meaningful projects for their pupils in their schools. This is the goal of bank and the Comenius Institute – to improve the quality of education thanks to skilled people.
